Description
Ballinteer Community School, also known as BCS, opened in 1974. The school is located in Ballinteer, a lovely residential area in the south side of Dublin city.
The school campus was redeveloped and a new school building was oficially reopened in 2008.
Ballinteer Community School (BCS) hosts an English camp at the Emerald Cultural Institute English Language Center. The school is located in the southern suburbs of Ballinteer, Dun Laire-Rathdown, a 30-minute drive from Dublin. The center opened its doors in 1974. In 2008 the school building was renovated and technically updated.
After school the children have lunch in the dining hall. There are basketball, baseball and badminton courts, tennis courts, and a multipurpose gymnasium. Kids can choose among creative workshops, different kinds of dance (hip-hop, salsa, Irish) and drama. Weekend students spend in the oceanarium, a fishing village Howth and a pearl of Irish history - the oldest castle Malahide with a collection of models of trains of the 20th century and botanical gardens. Group leaders and students have the opportunity to walk around Dublin freely. Also during the week children will go on a trip to Trinity College, an interactive museum Dublinia, where they will show medieval performances and learn about national dances. Evenings are spent with host families.
Children stay with host families for the duration of their studies. The Center has worked with them for 12 years. Most families are within walking distance of the academic building. Some families live farther away, but close to a bus or streetcar stop. All transportation routes from home to school are direct and without transfers.
